Our four-year-old learners develop reading readiness and shift from a passive to active involvement with the written word. Using phonemic sequencing activities inspired by the Lindamood Bell Phonemic Sequencing Program, students are able to identify letters and associate sounds with symbols. They learn to put consonant and vowel sounds together to create words and develop a sight word vocabulary.

Students continue to refine and strengthen their fine motor skills as they begin to write with inventive spelling and draw creatively. Using elements from Handwriting without Tears, a popular writing skills curriculum, teachers guide students in letter formation and writing techniques.

Four-year-old students link the study of the alphabet with math, science, social studies, language arts and Judaic studies. Though the letter study may be the initial stimulation, the depth of the lesson is inspired by student interest and enthusiasm.

“The decision to enroll our son at Strelitz is one of the best we have made to date! The quality of education, encouragement of active exploration, hands-on learning and balance of activities has been unparalleled to any other program we have encountered. Our son has truly blossomed, and we love the supportive interaction between teachers and peers as well as the sense of community.”
-Dr. Melanie Cohen (parent of child in four-year-old program)
