Student Support Services

We are proud to have an outstanding student support team on staff that reflects our philosophy of educating the whole child, maximizing student development and parental involvement.

Our team is led by Maureen Sullivan, General and Special Education for Preschool-8th grade. Other team members include:

  • Debbie Mayer, LCSW
  • Strelitz Executive Director Lorna Orleans
  • School Nurse Susan Schwartzman

Debbie has more than 25 years of clinical experience working with young children and families. Both Maureen and Debbie help teachers identify strategies to improve student performance and strengthen their ability to respond to individual needs so our children become independent learners for life.

Maureen keeps regular office hours in Strelitz from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Debbie is available twice a week. Both meet with teachers and/or parents to pinpoint problems, gather information and observe the student problem/concern.

They discuss interventions and solutions to develop a Student Action Plan with desired goals and a timeline. Finally, Maureen and Debbie determine, along with Strelitz staff, if an outside referral should be made for additional support.
